It starts in London, and then travels up the Grand Union Canal all the way to Birmingham on one of the working narrow boats.

Broadcast as a serial in BBC radio Children's Hour, 1948.

First edition: brown boards, black lettering on front board and spine; 164pp; frontispiece and seventeen illustrations all in black and white; dustwrapper vignette picture of policeman emerging from cabin of canal boat; front flap gives resume of story and states that it has been 'booked for broadcasting early in 1948'; rear flap has information about the author, and photograph; cp 7s 6d.
