Jonathan Cape

In the late 1940s and early 1950s, Cape brought out two series of thick books titled Adventure and Discovery for Boys and Girls and Discovery and Romance for Boys and Girls.

These were collections of articles, normally illustrated by photographs, on topics which were considered of interest and educational value to the youth of the day.
Malcolm Saville's skill as a reporter was brought to bear on a number of topics: as seen below. Interestingly, in one he writes under the pseudonym 'D J Desmond' possibly because there was already an article by him in the same book.

The articles known of are as follows:
Guardians of Our Coast in Adventure and Discovery for Boys and Girls No 2 1947

The Eternal Romance of Farming in Discovery and Romance for Girls and Boys No 2 1947

The World’s Greatest Port and Craftsmanship in a Machine Age (as DJ Desmond) articles in Adventure and Discovery for Boys and Girls No 3 1948

London’s Fire Fighters in Adventure and Discovery for Boys and Girls No 5 1950

The Story of Milk in Discovery and Romance for Girls and Boys No 3 1948
